The circular economy and innovation for the benefit of the city
Los Cantiles, located in the Valdemingómez Technology Park, is the first composting plant in the Community of Madrid to incorporate an automated system using artificial intelligence for process monitoring and management. Grupotec has been responsible for project management and site supervision since 2020, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety and minimisation of environmental impact throughout the construction phase, which began in 2022.
The facility transforms separately collected food waste, organic waste from Mercamadrid and green waste into more than 37,000 tonnes of compost suitable for agricultural use each year. Its office building has been certified as Passivhaus Premium — the first in Spain to receive this distinction and the second in the world — and features a self-consumption photovoltaic plant of almost 1 MWp, representing a total investment of 48.5 million euros, co-financed by the EU’s Next Generation funds.
Key aspects of the project
