Biogas and power generation plant

Construction engineering for an anaerobic digestion plant for the energy recovery from agro-industrial waste in Juzbado (Salamanca), adjacent to the ENUSA factory. With a treatment capacity of 15,000 tonnes per year of waste from agricultural, livestock and agro-industrial sources — slurry, cereal meal, slaughterhouse by-products and whey — the plant produces biogas through anaerobic fermentation in sealed digesters, which is then combusted in a combined heat and power (CHP) engine to generate up to 0.5 MW of renewable electricity fed into the grid, as well as digestate with a high nutrient content that is utilised agronomically as organic fertiliser. The project was a pioneer in Spain in applying this technology to the agro-industrial sector on an industrial scale with electricity fed into the grid, becoming a benchmark for subsequent facilities.
