140 MW connection in the UK

29 January 2024

The Porth Wen (70 MW) and Burwell (70 MW) solar farms were connected to the grid on 11 and 12 December 2023, with the medium-voltage lines, the STSs and 100 per cent of the inverters energised, with both sites feeding electricity into the grid. It is worth noting that this was achieved within 24 hours, which is significant given that the farms are not adjacent but separated by almost 400 kilometres.

These projects, as on so many other occasions, have presented a major challenge due to various circumstances. This involved a new client, EDF, within a regulatory framework still in flux due to the consequences of Brexit and with inherently complex conditions: Porth Wen, located on Anglesey, with very steep slopes and extremely harsh weather; and Burwell, the second project in the UK connected directly to the National Grid, with additional safety measures and a connection scheme far more complex than usual.

Without a doubt, our teamwork has yielded excellent results!

Congratulations to EVERYONE!
