Grupotec presents its innovation in renewable energy at the SDEWES 2026 Conference

Grupotec took part in the SDEWES 2026 conference (Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems), a leading conference on sustainable development held between 31 August and 4 September in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. During the event, Grupotec engineers and PhD students Carlos Sanchís and Conrado García presented two research projects developed as part of the innovation plan and resulting from the industrial PhD programme, thereby reinforcing the company’s commitment to applied research in the photovoltaic sector.

The first study, entitled ‘Effective Bifaciality and Power Gain Assessment in Utility-Scale PV Plants Using High-Resolution Monitoring Data’, analyses the actual performance of bifacial technology based on two years of high-resolution SCADA data from a 50 MWp photovoltaic plant with single-axis trackers. The study provides practical criteria for improving production estimates, electrical design and the determination of installed capacity in photovoltaic farm projects using bifacial modules, in contrast to existing theoretical studies that are out of touch with reality.

Meanwhile, the paper *Characterisation of Ground Albedo Change Due to Land-Use Conversion in Bifacial Photovoltaic Plants: A Multi-site Energy Impact Analysis, analyses how the construction and operation of photovoltaic plants alter the ground albedo and, consequently, the radiation available on the rear side of bifacial modules. With a practical and innovative approach for the scientific sector, it consolidates Grupotec’s expertise in generation estimates, which enables further refinement and reduction of uncertainties in photovoltaic park projects, resulting in a positive impact for both the company and the client.

“Our participation in SDEWES 2026 has enabled us to confirm the high value of the innovations and research we carry out at Grupotec, not only from an industrial perspective, but also from a scientific one,” explained Sanchís. For the department, the research demonstrates a strong link between science, innovation and practical application in the energy sector, with results of interest to the research community. Their work has been commended by conference participants and received a “very positive assessment for the quality and relevance of the work presented”.
